How healthy is your yard?
This is the second learning activity in the Nature-Friendly Yards action project. Attendance is open to all, whether or not you attended the first session.
After exploring how we use our outdoor spaces during our first Nature-Friendly Yards design charrette, our next step is learning how to assess the ecological health of our yards.
Join us in Sagebrush as we explore the Grow Wild Yard Assessment, a practical tool developed by the Kamloops Naturalist Club to help residents evaluate the ecological health of their properties. Together we will look at habitat, biodiversity, pollinator support, water management, tree canopy, and ecological connections within our neighbourhoods.
This session will take place in a local resident’s yard and will begin with a tour of the garden, including the goals, challenges, successes, and lessons learned along the way. We will then work through the Grow Wild evaluation rubric as a group and explore how different landscape features contribute to a healthier and more nature-friendly yard.
Whether you are just beginning your nature-friendly yard journey or already have an established garden, this session will provide practical tools to help you understand where your yard is today and identify opportunities for improvement.
