Monday, September 26 is the first day of The Great Green Transportation Tune-Up!  It’s a whole week of activities with a focus on sustainable transportation – and it’s a whole lot of fun!  Find the full schedule at Have you registered for the Transit Treasure Hunt?  It’s a scavenger hunt with a twist – take a tour of the City by transit and become eligible for great prizes.  Local merchants have donated literally thousands of dollars in prizes.  Sign up with a friend, or two or three! Clean Air Day June 1st

The Kamloops ECOSmart team is back in action! This spring/summer they’ll be continuing a commitment to educating citizens of Kamloops about the importance of a sustainable lifestyle including: water conservation, energy efficiency, solid waste management, and recycling. On Wednesday, June 1, 2011 the City of Kamloops will be celebrating Clean Air Day with a waste-free picnic in Riverside Park. The purpose of Clean Air Day is to demonstrate a wide variety of alternative methods of transit, gardening, composting, and recycling. The focus of this event will be to emphasize the importance of reducing Canada’s ecological footprint with anti-idling practices. City council members, City Senior Management, the media, local environment groups, and the public have all been invited to take part in this National event. The Great Green Transportation Tune-Up: Travel $marter, Live Better Greenhouse gas emissions need to come down around the world. Kamloops 350 believes it’s time to “think globally, act locally.” We are organizing a week of activities with a focus on green transportation that will take place during the last week of September, 2011, with the big finale on October 1st. Our goals for the week are:GGTTU foot • To raise awareness of alternative transportation in Kamloops • To reduce transportation based CO2 emissions in Kamloops • To generate public discussion on sustainable transportation in Kamloops We’re calling it the Great Green Transportation Tune-Up, and we’re organizing activities designed to increase the efficiency of cars, encourage carpooling, and increase familiarity with transit options, bike routes and other “clean” ways of getting around.
