2022 will mark the 46th annual Kamloops Walk for Peace, Social Justice, and the Environment, aka the Kamloops Peace Walk—the longest continuously-running Peace Walk in North America! After two years of pandemic-fueled division, as world peace seems farther away than ever, this Walk’s theme is Peace: If not now, then when? Let’s all keep hope alive by joining together to show that we still believe a better world is not just possible but necessary for all of us, and we’re willing to work together to make it happen.
Beginning with a formal land acknowledgement with a special guest from Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc at 10:00 am, there will be live music sprinkled with short (3-5 min) motivational talks from a variety of speakers on the three main focuses of the Walk. The Walk will kick off at noon with the release of the Peace Doves, as we start on the traditional route through downtown before looping back returning to the schoolyard.
Besides the music, there will be face-painting, delicious hot-dog smokies (including vegan options), and more! Transition Kamloops will have a team in the Walk, carrying the Earth itself on a symbolic emergency stretcher. Join us, bring the kids or grandkids, and make this year’s Peace Walk one to remember!
Come out a week early on Saturday April 30th at Stuart Wood behind the Kamloops Farmer’s Market for an opportunity to draw or paint your own signs to be carried—by yourself or others!—in the Walk. Materials provided!
