An endeavour to gain first hand experience of all existing and proposed bicycle routes as identified in the Kamloops Transportation Master Plan for use in cycling infrastructure advocacy and to publicly promote cycling.
March 19 – Brock to Valleyview
Today’s 30 km route took us east to Orchards Walk via McArthur, Riverside and Pioneer Parks returning through downtown.
This route is on existing Bike Lanes and Multi-Use Pathways (with the exception of the short proposed shared route on Happyvale). Whether you’re pedaling for recreation or to commute to work, school, or an appointment, this is some of Kamloops finest in-town cycling. This would make a lovely excursion for tourists wanting to explore the valley bottom or for a family outing, as it is very scenic weaving through three of the city’s most beautiful parks and it is almost all on level grade. It doesn’t get any easier or rider friendly than this one.
From Happyvale Ave in Brock to the start of Valleyview Dr took just 45 min and to the end of the paved road at Orchards Walk 55 – 60 min.
The whole trip including multiple stops for photos took 2 hours and 20 min, so pump up your tires, oil your chain, grab your helmet and go be a tourist in your own city.
