News from the Repair Cafe

It has been a great year for Repair Cafe Kamloops. On February 29th the group hosted a Repair Cafe at Sahali Mall with a record 92 items brought in for repair! Β 57 of these items were successfully repaired – the majority of which were electrical appliances (with quite a number of Kitchen Aid stand mixers being brought back to life!) A number of new volunteers joined our already long list of supporters — we’re so pleased to see our capacity growing along with the demand!

The group has partnered with the TRUSU Eco Club to host a clothing repair event on Friday March 6th at TRU in the Campus Activity Centre. There will be a clothing swap from 8 am – 3 pm, with clothing repairs from 9 am – 1 pm.

Earlier this year, Repair Cafe Kamloops received a $500 micro grant to purchase tools. The grant from iFixit was one of 100 grants to support local repair initiatives.

Repair Cafe Kamloops has been active in the Kamloops community since April 2018. By April 2020, the group will have hosted eight repair events, repairing over 200 items to date. Way to go, team!
