. Sorry to report that Emterra cancelled this tour. We will try to reschedule.
Here’s an event that’s tailor-made for all the recycling geeks out there (yes, that’s a good thing!) The Kamloops Chapter of the BC Sustainable Energy Association invites you to a behind-the-scenes peek at what really happens with all the stuff we throw into our recycling bins.
Date: Saturday, April 28, 2012
Time: 10 am for the Emterra tour
8:30 am for the breakfast social
What happens to our mixed recycling after it leaves our curb? Where does it go? Does it get sorted locally? How is sorting accomplished? Are there magnets involved…or flotation…or maybe a crew of Oompah Loompahs? And what happens to all the stuff that gets thrown in by accident that isn’t recyclable at all? See the Emterra plant where curbside recycling materials and bottles get dropped off, compacted, baled and shipped to the Surrey facility.
In addition to this one-of-a-kind tour, we’d like to meet you for a friendly breakfast before the tour (no host) at Harold’s Restaurant, across the highway from the Emterra building. It will be a chance to socialize, get to know each other better, and (of course) discuss local sustainability issues!
Because this is not a public tour and space is limited, we need you to pre-register. Register here. Please note: you can register for the tour only, or for the breakfast as well as the tour. Breakfast starts at 8:30 am at Harold’s Restaurant in Valleyview. Tour starts at 10 am at the Emterra plant across the highway on Kelly Douglas Road (use Vicar’s Road crossing).
