Can bicycles save the world?

Regular cycling can arrest high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and boost your immune system. It can increase your overall fitness and make you sexier. A bike lifestyle can simplify your life, save you money and relieve stress.

The Kamloops Bicycle Summit is an exploration of Velo Culture and its effect on individuals and their communities. Cities around the world are embracing cycling as a viable alternative to the car and bicycle riders are becoming a force of nature.

Join Arnica Artist Run Centre in its art-based exploration of bicycle culture through the work of artists Ruth Lloyd, Lilka Dragowska’s, Doug Buis and Craig Willms, Vintage Tour posters from John Tilley’s collection and the best of the ”Filmed By Bike ” film festival.

Come and see how bicycles have become an integral part of Copenhagen’s transportation network, are Ubuntu’s primary mode of transportation and how cycling is transforming cities everywhere.

But that’s not all.  It wouldn’t be bicycling if it wasn’t fun, so this event invites your participation. A series of bicycle rides through artful terrain led by local cycling enthusiasts will happen throughout September and October.  No need for lycra, excessive sweating or expensive bikes – just join us for some fun two-wheeled freedom, exercise and camaraderie.

Join us at Arnica on Friday, September 2 at 6:30 p.m. for The Kamloops Bicycle Summit opening event and discover what bicycles can do for the health of our bodies, our planet and our imaginations.

The show runs from September 2 until October 29, 2011 at Arnica Artist Run Centre.  Regular hours are Tuesday to Friday 10 am – 5pm, Saturday 10am – 4pm.  For more information on ride schedule and locations see poster or contact Ray Perreault at ray.perrault@shaw.ca.
